Redescription
Scientific Name Notes This name, Prochristianella pastinaca, is listed as the type species of the genus Prochristianella by Schmidt (1986, pg. 59) in his key to tapeworm genera. No information (other than that transcribed here about host and locality) or citation is given. However, as Prochristianella papillifer is the true type species of the genus, and the type host and type locality of P. papillifer are identical to those provided for P. pastinaca by Schmidt (1986) (i.e., from Upogebia stellate from France), it seems likely that Schmidt's listing of "pastinaca" as the specific epithet of the type species of the genus Prochristianella was an accident or a mistake, hence its designation here as "Lapsus calami (?)"
