Redescription
Scientific Name Notes Type species Caryophyllaeus laticeps (Pallas, 1781) Gmelin, 1790 Schmidt (1986) listed O.F. Müller (1787) as the author of the genus but Mackiewicz (1994) listed Gmelin (1790) to be the author of the genus, which is correct. It is not true that Gmelin (1790 - p. 3052) renamed Bloch’s Caryophillus to Caryophillaeus (see Zeder, 1803 - p. 245); he used Caryophyllaeus. Muller (1787) used the name Nelkenwurm on p. 79 and should not be listed as genus authority (see Barčák et al., 2017).
