| Scientific Name Notes | Shipley & Hornell (1906, pg. 48) synonymize Tetragonocephalum and Tylocephalum in a footnote and, as a consequence, create the new combination Tylocephalum aetiobatidis. This species is likely a member of Adelobothrium. It is possibly a synonym of Adelobothrium aetiobatidis Shipley, 1900, albeit shorter (1.3 cm vs. 4–5 cm) and narrower (0.5 mm vs. 1.5 mm). However, T. aetiobatidis was described from but a single specimen while it appears that Shipley had available to him several specimens ("Adelobothrium aetiobatidis is by far the commoner"; pg. 545) for the original description of A. aetiobatidis. If however these 2 species are determined to be distinct and T. aetiobatidis is transferred to Adelobothriu, a replacement name needs to be proposed for T. aetiobatidis Shipley & Hornell, 1905 given that would become a homonym of A. aetiobatidis Shipley, 1900. |
