Redescription
Scientific Name Notes Stiles and Hassell (1912) created Calycobothrium as the replacement name for Cyclobothrium Southwell, 1911 which was occupied; the type species of Cyclobothrium became the type species of Calycobothrium (=C. typicum). Jensen (2005) considered the genus Calycobothrium to be a genus inquirendum et incertae sedis and listed this species as a species inquirenda (non-lecanicephalidean); given that the scolex illustrated in the original description superficially resembles the scolex of other lecanicephalideans such as Thysanobothrium or Polypocephalus, but that the proglottid anatomy (acc. to Southwell, 1911, 1925; Jensen, 2005) is inconsistent with that of any polypocephalidean, the type species and the genus is considered to be unrecognizable at this time.
